It wasn’t long ago that I was still booting up my Dell PC that I had bought during my freshman year of college. That computer was easily 8 years old. Although I wasn’t running anything intensive, it was alive and perfectly functional.  Over the last three years, I have gone through 2 desktops and 3 laptops and it got me wondering… are computers just not built the way they used to be or are we just not treating these new lightweight, slim designed computers properly. I’ve decided on the latter and set forth toward a proper maintenance schedule.

As files get bigger, our hard drives fill up at a faster rate. With the introduction of HD videos along with Blu-ray recordings, our computer can really be hampered down over a course of a few days. It is essential to run defragmentation software on a weekly basis to make sure that your hard drive runs at its best.  A filled up hard drive can easily slow down one’s computer by more than half. It’s imperative to run this on a weekly basis along with a more in depth scan once a month.

Viruses or malwares are so advanced that they can go about being undetected on a variety of even the <a style=”text-decoration: none;” href=”https://www.top10antiviruslist.com/the_list/top-10-best-antivirus-software/”> <span style=”text-decoration: none; color: #555555;”>top 10 antivirus</span></a> programs. Always make sure to update the program regularly so that you have the most up to date virus pack. I would even suggest having a standalone program for viruses and a separate program dedicated to malware.  Malware comes in all shapes and sizes, from key loggers all the way to tracking every mouse click on your computer. Running scans and checks are vital to keeping your computer along with your information safe from the outside world. A little preventative maintenance will save you a world of headaches down the road.
